bio
Evelyn studied graphic design at Kingston, but after some years as a designer and illustrator, and a long career break, now paints full-time. Turning away from her 'conventional' illustration in pen, colour pencil and water-colour, she has developed a strong, distinctive style using gouache.
'This method of working comes very naturally to me - I relish the challenge of simplifying a scene, but keeping strong contrasts. Each painting involves a lot of decision-making, around what to leave out and what depth of tone to use.
Recently, I have wanted to work at a larger scale, so I am on a steep learning curve, experimenting with acrylics and oils on canvas and board. It's a fresh challenge - very good for me!'
