Evelyn Bartlett grew up in Surrey and trained at Kingston as a graphic designer.
Once qualified, she moved to Devon, starting employment as a book-jacket designer, but soon turning freelance, to produce illustrations for publishers,
advertising agencies and the holiday industry.
In the Spring of 2007, she moved to Hampshire and started painting full-time
from her home, on the fringes of the New Forest and a short distance from the sea at Lepe. Having worked in pencil and watercolour for many years, she has revived a style she first developed at college, using gouache. This method has rapidly become her signature, with its bold, bright colours and graphic simplicity having wide appeal.
Working from photographs taken whenever a scene grabs her attention, she simplifies the picture into areas of light and dark tones.
Evelyn’s main inspiration comes from waterside locations, particularly reflections and colours on the water, but she is also finding fascination in the majestic trees which abound in the Forest.
